Bubbles . . . Up! By Jacqueline Davies

An amusing and refreshing picture book expressing the pleasure of a swimming pool with friends and family.

The book opens with a glorious scene where three children are playing in the swimming pool, one carrying an orange-colored tube, the second one trying to escape from splashes of water, and the third one running around in great enthusiasm. The word plunge has a significant relation in the opening of the book with the title of the book as when one plunges the bubbles go up which looks quite reasonable and logical. Jacqueline’s writings in the book frame a storyline in the book well connected to each illustration and depict the true beauty of them.

On turning over the pages a bodacious world of underwater has been well illustrated by Sonia Sánchez. Describing the exquisiteness of bubbles through poetry adds stars to the book and facilitates the reader in visualizing the book with more feel and euphoria. Everything goes well till the thunderstorms come in between and spoil the exhilaration and delight of the people enjoying at the swimming pool. Due to the sudden rain, people start running for the cover but soon the rain stops bringing the children back to the swimming pool.

Run for cover

Everybody under.

Shuddering shoulders.

Huddling, colder.

A young cheerful white-skinned boy suddenly wobbles near the swimming pool grabbing the attention of others. After this I would not like to mention the after scene as it will reveal the end of the book so to complete the book, I request all my readers to purchase this cheerful book Bubbles Up edited by Jacqueline Davies and illustrated by Sonia Sánchez.
